Ben Swift and Mark Christian both claimed top-20 finishes at the OVO Energy Tour of Britain which concluded at the weekend.
Onchan resident Swift ended the eight-stage race with a 16th place in the tour’s finale into Manchester on Saturday which came on the back of a strong week for the Rotherham-born star.
The Team Ineos reigning British National Road Race Champion recorded finishes of fifth, sixth, 14th, fourth, seventh, 31st and 32nd prior to the final stage which were enough for him to end the tour in 17th in general classification.
This, coupled with Swift ending sixth in the points class and helping Ineos win the team competition, meant that he picked up the Best British Rider award at the conclusion of the event.
Team Wiggins Le Col’s Christian produced a series of consistently good results throughout the race, most notably a couple of 24th place finishes in stages four and seven, which enabled him to end the tour in 19th place overall, only nine seconds adrift of Swift.
Matty Bostock enjoyed a good week in the saddle for Canyon dhb p/b Bloor Homes, in particular featuring prominently throughout the fifth stage, getting into an early breakaway and was one of the last riders to stay clear until being reeled in by the peloton in the final kilometres.
Bocky ended the race 23th in the mountains classification, 28th in the points category and 97th overall.
Mark Cavendish claimed a 10th-place finish during the fifth stage into Birkenhead and ended the week 29th in the points class and 87th overall.
There was a special moment for the Manx Missile on the final stage as he crossed the finish line alongside Dimension Data team-mates Bernard Eisel and Mark Renshaw in tribute to the latter man who - having been Cav’s star leadout man over the years - was competing in his last professional race before retiring.
