Gerrard, who was forced to retire from this year’s Parish Walk with a recurring back problem, looked strong throughout the 39.2-mile walk on Sunday, eventually crossing the finish line at The Sound in a winning time of 6hr 38min 20sec.

Adam Killip finished runner-up in 7:05.08, followed by Dave Walker 7:08.52 and the aforementioned Quirk in a pb time of 7:12.35.

Leading female was Karen Lawrie in sixth.
