The Canada Life Premier League resumes after its festive break on Saturday afternoon.
Game of the day arguably takes place at Blackberry Lane where DHSOB host Corinthians.
Old Boys’ game time has been hit hard by the recent poor weather, their only outing since the middle of November a 6-2 defeat by relegation candidates Douglas Royal.
Liam Buckley’s charges have three games in hand on most and if they win them they could shoot up to fourth in the standings.
Corinthians’ title charge has faltered a little in recent weeks and they now trail league leaders Peel by seven points.
The nip-and-tuck nature of this campaign probably means this is not an insurmountable gap, but the Whites need to get back to winning ways, starting with three points at the weekend.
Peel should keep their place at the top of the pile going into the new year as they host Castletown at Douglas Road.
The westerners won the reverse fixture 0-6 and should pick up another victory despite Town being able to call on their home-for-Christmas university contingent.
St Mary’s will be waiting in the wings to pounce if Peel slip up.
The Saints, who sit a point behind but with a game in hand, take on Marown this week and should be firm favourites to clinch the points.
Rushen United’s will be hoping to continue their good form when they travel to Douglas Athletic.
The latter made a good start to the campaign, but have only won one of their last six. With the Spaniards on a roll, this should be another three points for Liam Cowin’s team as they continue their march up the table.
Saturday afternoon’s other game sees St George’s host Laxey at Glencrutchery Road.
The Miners sit at the foot of the table on goal difference, and will do well to take anything away from this match against a Geordies side that should still be able to call upon its off-island contingent.
The reverse fixture ended 9-1 in the reigning champions’ favour, but expect this one to be a little closer with the Miners’ performances, if not results, improving over recent weeks.
