Corinthians were crowned Canada Life Premier League champions for the first time after completing an unbeaten season at St George’s.

The Whites rounded off their undefeated campaign with a 3-1 success against a talented young Geordies side at Glencrutchery Road but they were pushed all the way.

Two penalties helped Corinthians on their way to victory, with Golden Boot winner Sean Doyle twice scoring from the spot after Dan Simpson had been fouled inside the box.

Stephen Whitley completed his impressive personal league campaign with another starring role by chipping home an excellent third for Blane Slattery’s men, while the lively Ben Wosser grabbed the deserved consolation goal for the Saints.

After the game, Isle of Man FA vice-president Stephen Carter paid tribute to the Ballafletcher outfit before handing over the trophy to captain Doyle before the celebrations began.

There were also celebrations at Springfield Road where RYCOB sealed promotion to the Premier League with victory over Pulrose United.

Graham Kennish led the way with a hat-trick while there was also braces from Nick Hurt and Ste Grose plus further strikes from Stephen Barbour and Jason Craine as Youthie claimed second place in JCK Division Two behind champions Union Mills.

Agonisingly missing out on promotion to the top flight on goal difference were Onchan despite an emphatic 7-1 win at home to Gymns.
