Corinthians bounced back from opening-day defeat at the hands of St George’s with comprehensive 11-2 win at Douglas Athletic in the Canada Life Premier League on Saturday.
A tight first-half at Springfield Road had ended all square at 1-1 thanks to some dogged defending from the hosts and a couple of fine stops from new Pinks’ keeper Adam Kinvig.
However, the dam burst in spectacular style in the second 45 as Danny McMahon’s Ballafletcher outfit hit double figures in relentless fashion.
The returning Sean Doyle (2), Ste Whitley (3), Fraser Vaughan (2), Daryl Haslett, Danny Oram and Josh Ridings all found the back of the in second-half, adding to Connor Gorman’s penalty before the break. New Athletic signing Luke Jollands bagged both goals for the hosts.
Reigning top-flight champions St Mary’s remain top of the pile after a 7-0 win over DHSOB. Summer signing from Rushen, Dan Hattersley, continued his rich vein of form since moving to the Bowl outfit, bagging four goals to add to the five he struck against Pulrose last weekend. Frank Jones netted a brace and player-manager scored his side’s other goal as Old Boys shipped seven for the second successive week.
St George’s, Peel, Laxey and Rushen who didn't play this week boast the division’s other 100 per cent records.
The Miners sit second after another good win, this time at home to promoted Ramsey.
A brace from Jordan Cooper and single strikes from Tommy Callow, Tom Cowin, Jack Ridings and Chris Asbridge made up the Miners’ tally in the 6-0 triumph at Glen Road.
Furo Davies netted four goals as Geordies beat Pulrose United 5-1 at Glencrutchery Road.
Connor Hislop netted Chris Bass side’s other goal, while Pully player-manager Ste Priestnal scored the Reds first goal of the campaign.
Peel eased to a 6-1 win over Marown at Douglas Road. Summer signing Dan Simpson was among the scorers for the westerners joining Lee Gale (2), Rhys Oates and youngster Jack Camarda and Daniel Bell on the scoresheet.
George Brockhouse picked up the Crosby outfit’s consolation.
JCK Division Two action started earlier than usual, with St John’s beating Gymns 4-0 under the floodlights of Mullen-e-Cloie on Friday evening.
Former Laxey youngster Can Brock bagged a brace, troubling the scorers along with skipper Callum Taggart and Richard Winn - the latter’s third strike in two games.
Onchan boast the division’s only other 100 per cent record after they kicked off their 2019-20 campaign with a fine 2-1 win over Colby at the Nivison Stadium.
Elsewhere, promotion contenders Union Mills and Ayre United both bounced back from opening day defeats.
Mills scored a 13-2 win at bottom side Governor’s Athletic, while the Tangerines were 7-0 winners over Douglas and District.
Dean Tate hit a hat-trick in the latter game, joining summer signings Anthony Sayle, Matty Skillicorn and Aidan Cummins on the scoresheet.
Foxdale also hit double figures as they beat Malew 10-0 at Clash Vane.
Stuart Morrison netted a treble in that match in Ballasalla, Stephen Bettridge (2), Liam Cannan, Jay Chatwood, Kev Pulman, Ricky Newsham and Andrew Williamson grabbing Dale’s other goals.
Braddan were the second-tier’s other winners, scoring a good 3-1 win over RYCOB thanks to goals from Nick Harvey, Dan McClaughlin and Mark O’Neill.
