The GH Corlett Woods Cup fires into life this weekend, with five preliminary round games taking place around the island on Saturday.
The tie of the round arguably takes place in the northern where RYCOB welcome Union Mills to Scoill ree Gorree hoping to continue their quest for a potential league and cup double.
The northerners have enjoyed a fine season so far and occupied pole position in JCK Division Two for a long time before dropping to third in recent weeks. Youthie are, however, only two points adrift of leaders Pulrose United and will be confident of finding a way past Mills this weekend.
The Millers, though, will make life difficult for their opponents and held them to a 2-2 draw in November, suggesting a close game is on the cards.
Another intriguing clash should be played out at Clagh Vane where fourth-placed Foxdale travel to fifth-placed Malew. With the teams locked together on 31 points, there doesn’t appear to be anything between the teams at the moment so it wouldn’t be a surprise if extra-time is required in this one.
Yet another close game could unfold at the Nivison Stadium where Onchan host Colby. The Os are comfortably ahead of the southerners in the league table but the Moonlighters are a rejuvenated force these days and go into the game on the back of a big 5-1 win at Gymns so this one could go either way.
The other two games should see wins for Pully and Ramsey against Douglas and District and Michael Utd respectively.
