This weekend’s football action will kick off under the floodlights on Friday night when St John’s host Gymns in JCK Division Two.
Having been relegated from the Premier League following a points deduction, the Saints kicked off their return to the second division with an impressive 2-1 win over promotion hopefuls Union Mills courtesy of a Richard Winn brace.
They will be expected to make it two wins from two when they go up against Gymns, with the Tromode side having gone down by the odd goal in five at home to Malew on the opening day.
There are five further Division Two fixtures on Saturday afternoon, the highlight of which is probably Colby’s trip to Onchan. The Os sat out the opening week whereas the Moonlighters thrashed Governor’s Athletic to top the fledgling standings, so the visitors will start this one as favourites.
Ayre United are another team tipped by many to challenge at the top this season but they will be eager to bounce back after losing a nine-goal thriller to northern rivals RYCOB last week.
This Saturday they welcome a plucky Douglas and District side that claimed a fine point against Michael United, while Youthie face a potentially tricky trip to Braddan at Victoria Road.
After a summer exodus, Malew defied the pundits predictions with that victory over Gymns and this weekend they welcome top-four hopefuls Foxdale to Clagh Vane. The final game sees the aforementioned Union Mills travel to Bemahague to face Governor’s Athletic.
