Manx International Football Alliance’s Ellan Vannin side is to set to take part in next summer’s ConIFA World Football Cup in London.
Reports that MIFA were going to contact Celtic over Manx-born Kieran Tierney’s availability for the tournament are, however, premature.
MIFA chief executive Malcolm Blackburn was quoted in SunSport saying: ’I intend to write to Brendan Rodgers about Kieran. The ConIFA finals are between May 31 and June 10 and Celtic’s schedule would allow him to play for us. The only crossover would be if they won the Champions League!
’I realise people might think we’ve no chance of them agreeing, but we can only make the request.’
MIFA have since said they would only contact Celtic if Kieran requested them to do so.
Chris Bass Sr’s side will be joined in London by hosts, Barawa, who the islanders beat 6-2 last month, holders Abkhazia, Tamil Eelam, Felvidek, Tibet, Western Armenia, European champions Padania, Northern Cyprus, Kiribati, Cascadia, Kabylie, Matabeleland, United Koreans of Japan, Panjab and Szekely Land.
The Manx didn’t compete at the 2016 World Football Cup in Abkhazia because of security fears, having finished runners-up in 2014.
In June, Ellan Vannin finished sixth in the eight-team ConIFA European Football Cup in Northern Cyprus.
