Ben Grainger won the Exmoor 4km open water swim on Sunday. He was the only Para swimmer in the event.
The Ramsey teenager had been scheduled to take part in the Dawlish Triathlon the same day but poor weather led to the swim element being cancelled - reducing it to a duathlon.
As Ben’s strength is the swim he decided to take part in the Exmoor open water swim which he had already placed an entry for if such a situation arose.
He travelled the 55 miles to Wimbleball Lake in Exmoor National Park, arriving shortly before the start.
There were 460 entrants over the 2km, 4km and 6km distances, the 4km having an entry of 194.
After 2km he was third overall, 25 metres behind the two leaders - open water regulars Sam Allix and Olliver Heard.
Approaching the final 100 metres, the three were side by side and Grainger edged his two rivals, making the best exit of the lake to cross the finish line in a time of 52min 24sec to beat Allix by two seconds, with Heard a further five seconds back.
Ben would like to thank all at Isle of Man Sport and Microgaming for the continued support.
