Bemahague pupil, 12-year-old Paige Parkin became the first female winner of a local pit bike event at the JCK kart track in Jurby the Sunday before last.

The event was held in mixed weather conditions, alternating between a wet track which dried late morning, to a greasy surface after a rain shower in the early afternoon.

There was drama in heat one of the junior class, with race leader, Rhys Callister, and Alex Galloway both tumbling on a very damp track. Young Paige Parkin held her nerve to take the win on her 140cc bike.

Callister then resumed command to win heat two and the final from newcomer Mason Hotchkiss.

In the Supermoto class, regular short circuit racer Marcus Simpson won both of the heats and final in superb style, backing it into the corners. He also set the fastest lap of the day at 50.69 seconds as he rode to victory in the final.

Teenager Illiam Quayle secured a comfortable victory in heat one of the senior pitbikes from former TT winner Chris Palmer, with Phil Gunnell an early retirement after a fall at the hairpin section on lap three.

Gunnell bounced back to win heat two from Quayle by 0.12 of a second in a race-long duel that swung in his favour when his rival ran wide and missed a gear at the hairpin in the latter stages.

Quayle made no mistake in the final, ultimately seeing off a strong challenge from Gunnell who slid off at the tight right-hander in front of the Radio Faasaag commentary van on the penultimate lap. Illy also set the fastest lap of 53.54s.

Palmer took his second runner-up spot of the day and it will not be long before the veteran road racer is challenging for wins.
