Race the Sun - cancelled last year because of the Covid restrictions - has been saved for 2021 and is set to take place on Saturday, May 22.
Organised as a fundraiser for The Children’s Centre, this year’s event is sponsored by LottoGo.com and has already received considerable interest with 23 teams of 10 runners entered.
The organising committee had remained cautiously optimistic throughout the pandemic, working on the premise that this year’s would be able to go ahead and, with last Thursday’s announcements that all restrictions were likely to be lifted, it has been full steam ahead.
Race the Sun is a relay race like no other. Starting at sunrise around 5am from Peel promenade, the teams of 10 members must complete a lap of the demanding 100-mile Raad ny Foillan coastal footpath before the sun sets.
Each leg varies in length, landscape and difficulty - ranging from 6.5 miles to 12 miles in distance.
There is a change to this year’s format as the event will be held in an anti-clockwise direction for the first time in a number of years.
If you would like to know more about, or wish to register a team for this event (overall fee £330 for team of 10 runners), please visit the following website - https://www.thechildrenscentre.org.im/events/ or email [email protected]
Bespoke sports’ T-shirts will go to teams that register by May 1 at the latest. Team amendments can be made up until May 14.

l The Manx Three Peaks Challenge, supported by Crowe, is another fundraiser for The Children’s Centre and set to take place on Sunday, July 4.
The event involves the triple peaks of North Barrule, Snaefell and Beinn y Phott.
The entry fee is £25 registration, plus a minimum of £75 sponsorship. Contact details as above.
l The Northern 10 road race, originally scheduled for this Sunday, was cancelled last month.
The Edgewater Park Run Series at Ramsey, also organised by Northern, will take place on the following evenings (all Fridays) - May 28, July 2 and 16, August 20.
It will be online entry only and should be online by May 1.
l The presentation of awards for the club’s Firemen’s Road Running League will take place at St Paul’s church hall in Ramsey on May 27.

l Entries remain open for the Acclaim Ltd 20-mile and marathon road races, which have been re-scheduled to take place on Sunday, May 16.
