Ramsey women have booked their place in final of the England Hockey Tier 4 Championship thanks to a thrilling victory against Burnt Ash at the weekend.
The LJ Partnership-sponsored side triumphed 4-2 and will now meet Nuneaton HC on May 5 at Lee Valley Stadium, Olympic Park.
Ramsey weathered the early pressure from Burnt Ash and on a breakout won a short corner in the ninth minute which allowed Vicki Garner fire the ball home from a straight strike to put the hosts into an early lead.
The Manx team were forced to regroup after an injury to Charlotte Oldfield and this provided impetus to Burnt Ash, who drew level on the 16th minute when a free hit just outside the D was worked to their centre forward who slipped the ball home.
Ramsey’s biggest threat was coming from the blistering pace of Christina Kermeen who the visitors found very difficult to keep up with.
However, Ramsey were not managing to turn these attacks into clear goal-scoring chances and were then denied by some outstanding saves from the Burnt Ash keeper.
The Bexley outfit kept the pressure up and were rewarded just before half-time with a second goal.
Ramsey responded well seeking an equaliser before the break but a resolute Burnt Ash held strong and at the interval is was 2-1 to the visitors.
The score could have been more, but for Oldfield stopping not once but three times in a row on the line to prevent a Burnt Ash third, which might have put the match beyond Ramsey.
The second half was all about a Ramsey attack against an impressive Burnt Ash defence, as the Manx side found their rhythm.
The visiting keeper was again in the middle of some fantastic saves to frustrate the home side following a series of short corners.
Another break away by Ramsey through the speed of Kermeen set-up Garner’s second as she was quickest to latch onto the loose ball and bring the scores level at 2-2.
Seeking a winner, Ramsey kept pushing and, as legs tired, Kermeen drove into the D to finish, making it 3-2 to the home team.
This sparked Burnt Ash back into life and the game changed dramatically again, with Ramsey having to defend waves of attack for the last five minutes.
A series of Burnt Ash short corners saw a very tense end to the game but some gutsy running from number one runner, captain Lauren Brew, saw Ramsey see out the threat and the final whistle.
A great performance by the Ramsey players who kept working hard throughout the game, fighting back for the win.
The reward is a place in the Tier 4 final against Nuneaton HC on May 5 at Lee Valley Stadium, Olympic Park in London.
