One of the island’s leading cyclists is facing an uncertain future after it was announced that Team Wiggins Le Col is to disband at the end of the season.

Mark Christian has been one of the team’s leading lights since making the switch from Aqua Blue Sport last year, with his notable results including 15th overall in the Tour of Yorkshire and eight in the British National Road Race Championships.

But, after five years, Team Wiggins bosses have decided to cease operations at the end of the current cycling season.

In a statement released earlier this week, the British outfit said:

’Team Wiggins Le Col has today announced it will not be operating in 2020.

’After five great years, the team’s ownership have taken the decision that the operation has come to its natural conclusion.

’Originally set up to help assist Brad (Wiggins) and his team-mates on their two-year journey to team pursuit gold on the track in the Rio 2016 [Olympics], the team then broadened its aims - post Brad’s retirement from professional cycling - to becoming a development team, nurturing and assisting the next generation of professional cyclists.

’The team look forward to finishing its season strongly at the upcoming Tour of Britain, where it will showcase its talent one last time.

’Team Wiggins Le Col would like to thank everyone who has been a part of the journey, including fans, sponsors, staff and of course the riders.’
