A man was pronounced dead at the scene of an incident in which a car ended up in a trench.

Emergency services were called to the Garey Ford, Lezayre, at 11.30pm last night (Thursday).

A car which was towing a trailer had gone into a trench, about a mile to the north of the Sulby River crossing.

The driver, a 72-year-old man from the north of the island, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police inquiries are ongoing. The Coroner has been informed.

A spokesman said: 'Police were called to the area of Garey Ford at 11.30pm last night.

’Unfortunately, the male driver from the car was pronounced dead at the scene.

’Inquiries are going into the circumstances of the incident.’
