A motorist who was caught speeding at 70mph in a 50mph zone and overtook a car in an area marked with double white lines has been fined.
Nathan Lee Halsall, aged 24, of Harcroft Meadow, Douglas, admitted the offences, which happened at Main Road, Hibernia, on June 2.
The area was under a temporary speed limit for TT at the time. He was fined £450 and had his licence endorsed with four points.
Prosecutor Rachael Braidwood told the court that at 3.48pm, police saw Halsall driving a Volkswagen Golf.
His speed was recorded at 70mph and he was then seen overtaking in an area marked with double white lines.
The court heard he already has five points on his licence.
Advocate Ian Kermode said: ’Mr Halsall would say that he was unaware of the temporary speed limit and he didn’t notice the sign. He didn’t realise he was breaking the speed limit as it is usually a de-restricted area.’
Regarding the overtake, Mr Kermode said: ’He would fully accept he was rather impatient. He came up behind a slow moving vehicle.
’His overtake has commenced during the period where the double white lines were.’
Magistrates fined Halsall £200 for speeding and £250 for failing to conform to a traffic direction.
He must also pay £50 prosecution costs.
