Police are warning residents about a scam doing the rounds on social media.
They’ve been notified of a Facebook Messenger notification which appears on smartphones from Facebook friends, suggesting that the person receiving the message appears in a video.
Police are urging people not to click on the message or link to the video, which will hack into the recipient’s profile.
Posting on social media, police said: ’This is doing the rounds on Facebook messenger. It will seem to come from a friend. Their account has been hacked. Do not try to open the video. It will try to get your details and then send out messages from your account and/or steal bank details or similar.’
