The bowling club in Port St Mary looks set to close.

The crown green bowling club - which is nearly 100 years old having been established in 1921 - has been told its lease on the land by the railway station where it plays will not be renewed.

The land owner, Will Kelly, wants to convert the land to agricultural use.

The club’s members - of which there are more than 80 - were tight-lipped on the matter as it is being handled by advocates.

Club president Robbie Cooil said: ’We need to ascertain the best way forward for the club. At the end of the day it’s not just one person’s decision.’

Mr Kelly said: ’The lease has not been renewed.

’The land is required back for agricultural use.

’It is in the hands of my advocates. I have no further comment.’
