A professional boxer will be pushing his body ’to the absolute limit’ in a new challenge involving the island’s highest peak.

Danny Roberts, 28, has set himself a target of climbing the equivalent height of Mount Everest - 8, 850 metres (29,035 feet) - by running from Laxey beach to Snaefell’s summit (6,673 metres or 2,034 feet)and back 14 times continuously.

The challenge, named ’This is my Everest’, is in aid of Huntington’s Disease Isle of Man and mental health charity Reach Isle of Man and is predicted to be 154 miles in total.

Danny will take on the mountain on January 5 next year.

He said: ’I like to set challenges that people think is impossible and I’ve been thinking about this one for a while now.

’I also love to push my body to the absolute limit.’

This follows his recent 24-hour continuous circuit challenge, where he raised more than £2,000 in memory of his grandmother, who sadly died due to Huntington’s Disease.

He hopes to raise as much as possible for the charity to support his mum and others who have been diagnosed with the genetic condition.

’The 24-hour circuit was just a benchmark for me and to show people things are possible to achieve,’ he said.

’That’s also why I’m doing this challenge, to show people not everything is impossible and that’s where it ties in with Reach and mental health.

’I want to help and inspire those that are struggling to show them if they put there minds to something they can achieve it.’

He said that Adam Hudgeon, founder of Reach, is one of his best friends and having seen him struggle and have a ’remarkable’ turnaround has inspired him to help his friend’s cause in providing support to people going through similar situations.

The boxer will not set himself a timeframe in this challenge but will keep going until it is done.

’I think it could take up to 40 hours so I’m just going to keep going until it’s done and will be running and there will most likely be some walking.’

He added: ’I’m feeling nervous for this one, as it is a mammoth challenge and test. But your body has no limits - it’s all in the mind.’
