Police have appealed for witnesses to an early hours altercation.

Market Street in Douglas was closed until the early afternoon on Saturday as officers conducted their inquiries.

Police have confirmed the incident involved an ‘altercation between a number of males’.

It took place around 4am this morning outside Elegance Taxis on Market Street.

Inspector Michael Taylor said: ‘We would like to apologise for any inconvenience the closure of Market Street may of caused today.

‘This is not a decision that is taken lightly. However, it is imperative that we secure all available evidence at the location to establish the facts of the matter which remain under investigation at this time.’

Police are appealing to members of the public who may have been in the area at the time, or anyone who has information regarding the incident, to contact Constabulary HQ on 631212 quoting reference number 97/5203/24.
